My father got into TV from being in radio in Montgomery. He had his own singing show on WJJJ radio. When television came around it was just a natural jump for him. Before Capt Zoomar he did several other shows. Uncle Walts Funhouse was one of them but Captain Zoomar was definitely the most popular. He built the set for Capt Zoomar himself and the engine was my mother's old vacuum cleaner. My mother made the outfits. The Telecopter was used at many different promotional events throughout the city Kids could ride in the copter. It went up on a pole and twisted around and went up and down. Captain Zoomar ran for 12 years on WCOV-TV in Montgomery during the early days of television and had various sponsors including Holsum Bread and Hall Brothers Dairy. While at WCOV he also did news weather and sports and hosted the March of Dimes telethon for 15 years. He left the station a few years before I was born probably around 1965. He went to work for a congressman for 20 years and then became U.S. Marshal in 1989. While Marshal he hosted a show on WCOV again called Alabamas Most Wanted. - Matt Bamberg
