Captain Ernie's Showboat 1971 set pictures from the Lost Picture Vault
Note the chairs to stage left. This where the moms who brought their kids to the show that day would sit and watch the show. They would watch the entire show from that area as the kids sat on the risers waiting for Ernie to interview them. Then the galley followed by the
pilot house. Also notice the cabinet with odds and ends we used for the show. Things like
push pins, spool of wire, cue cards, paper and magic markers, etc. were in there. To the right of that cabinet, is the double doors to the WOC master tv control room. The curtain on the left of galley was where you could see into the WOC Studio A control room.
This is the studio A set where the Showboat was moved to in 1970. In other pictures from before 1970, in the other studio, the galley was on the right of the pilot house. The pictures on this page from '71 have the galley on the left and then the mom's chairs. The back of the set is toward the west and the front points east. B studio points to the south.
- Legendary WOC Engineer Jon Book
Now we can see that the pictures on the wall were of showboats and a certificate!

On those pilot house shots, the coiled cord from the ceiling is the prop manheadset cable so that the prop man can hear the talkback audio from the tv director in 'A' control room. Note the WW 2 headset on the far left of the railing, it was the prop man's headset for the floor crew. Once in a while if the prop man didnt watch where he was, the spot lights above would melt the cable and short out the audio. By the way, John Seran, a WOC TV engineer, was the creator of the ceilingheadset cable installation. John retired in 1982 and passed away in 1987.
