("Lunch With Soupy Sales" was originally seen locally on WXYZ TV Ch.7 in Motown under the title" 12 O'Clock Comics!" weekday afternoons from 1953 to 1959.)
The show was seen Saturday afternoons on WABC TV Ch.7 in NYC.
The hosts/performers of WPIX TV Ch.11 NYC's"Let's Have Fun!" were Chuck,McCann,Paul Ashley and Terry Bennett. There were other mc's of that series..Chuck and Paul were the first hosts/performers of the show. When "LHF"debuted on Ch.11 on Sunday morning September 18,1960..they left the show following creative disputes with station management following the Sunday August 15,1965 broadcast.
"Captain Jack"McCarthy mc'd the program for the remainder of the summer of 1965.
On Sunday September 5,1965..Entertainer and tv producer Terry Bennett hosted "LHF" Sunday mornings until the fall of 1966. Hank Stohl would become "Let's Have Fun's"fifth host/performer in the fall of 1966..he would co-host the show with child actor Robert Broderick (No relation to actor Mathew Broderick) and The Tom Tichenor Puppets. Mr.Stohl would leave the show abruptly and moved to California to try his luck as an actor...Bill Biery would host "LHF" as himself (Not as "Beachcomber Bill") with Mr.Robert Broderick,The Tom Tichenor Puppets and"Doakey The Clown"(Ed Alberian)
for the remainder of the 1966 tv season. Former WPIX TV Director and Cameraman Scoey Mitchell would serve as the seventh and last host/performer of "LHF!"
He would mc the show as"Fireman Frank" Sunday mornings from September 12,1967 to June,1968.
Sonny Fox was not the only host of WNEW TV Ch.5 NYC's"Just For Fun!"
Sonny woud mc this popular kids tv game show Saturday mornings on Ch.5 from Saturday October 3,1959 to Saturday
July 31,1965..But he would leave the program and Fred Scott would take over as the second and last host of "JFF"from August to September,1965.
"Captain Allen"Swift was the first host/performer of WPIX TV Ch.11 NYC's"Popeye Show"..but..? He was not the only mc of the program. "Captain Allen" Swift would host the show weekday evenings at Ch.11 from Monday September 10,1956 to Friday September 23, 1960. "Captain Ray" Heatherton would mc the weekend evening edition of "The Popeye Show" from Saturday and Sunday September 8, & 9, 1956 to Sunday April 13,1958. "Captain Jack"McCarthy would host WPIX TV's "Popeye Show"weekday evenings and afternoons from Monday September 26, 1960 to September,1972.
Regarding Allen Swift
co-hosting The "Felix The Cat & Friends Show"with Ch.5's veteran cartoon show mc "Uncle Fred" Scott, Mr. Scott hosted that series solo..When WNEW TV acquired the rights to"The Diver Dan TV Puppet Films"..Mr.Scott screened them with The"Felix The Cat" TV cartoons created and produced by Mr. Joe Orlio for Trans-Lux TV Inc. on "Felix & Diver Dan" Monday thru Saturday evenings on Ch.5 from January to September, 1962.
Mr.Swift did the voices for all of the puppets and for the actor..playing "Diver Dan" in the diving suit (Wrirter Frank Freda) played Diver Dan in the filmed segments with the puppets).
I've also checked the listing for "Cartoon Playtime" it is stated that the series was hosted by "Uncle Tom"Gregory. According to my research that series had four hosts..not just one. "Uncle Fred"Scott and "Uncle Tom" Gregory mc the show weekday afternoons on WNEW TV Ch.5 in NYC from 1958 to the 1960's.
"Uncle Ed"Ladd became the program's third host in 1959 and he would co host the show..when Mr.Gregory was not available. Toward the end of the show's run in 1965..Fred Hall would serve as the show's fourth and last mc.
I would like to add another popular cartoon series to your listing.
On Monday evening September 9,1963..WPIX TV Ch.11 in NYC became the very first NYC
based tv station to screen "The Mighty Hercules TV" Cartoons created and produced by Mr.Joe Orlio and by Trans Lux TV Inc.
Horror show host/performer Mr.John Zacherley would mc the program during the fall of 1963.. Following his departure in the winter of 1964.."Officer Joe" Bolton would host the show in January of 1964..later that year..Jack McCarthy would mc "The Mighty Hercules Show" first as himself and then
later as "Captain Jack". ("Capt.Jack" would host the show weekday afternoons)
In April,1965.. Ms.Carol Corbett would become the fourth and last host/performer of "The Mighty
Hercules Show"..which would move to the lunchtime hour.
Along with performing puppet skits and engaging her viewers in drawing lessions, songs, stories,
craftmaking, hobbies, informational segments and interviews with guest performers and personalities.
Ms.Corbett would also screen "The Barney Google & Snuffy Smith" TV Cartoons created and produced
by The Paramount/Famous and Gene Deitch studios, "The Day With Doodles Weaver" TV film comedies,
and "The Gumby Puppet Films"created and produced by Mr.Art Cloakey.
The series title would later change to"The Carol Corbett Show".
In the fall of 1968 WNEW TV Ch.5 in NYC added "The Bob McAllister Show" to it's weekday afternoon schedule. Bob..who was then the fifth and last host/performer of Ch.5's long running Sunday children's
variety show"Wonderama"..would mc his own comedy show for kids.
Bob had hosted a kids comedy tv show in Norfolk,Va.on WTAR and later on WJZ TV Ch.13 in
Baltamore, Md. during the late 1950's and into the early 1960's..had him performing character comedy
and puppet skits and magic tricks in between the reruns of old movie and tv cartoons.
Characters such as"Prof.Fingleheimer" and his machine,"Zip Code"(A wisecrack spouting hippie),
"Thermin": a navie country bumpkin,"Mike Fury"a bragging superheroe,"Willie Winkie"&"Billie Blinky" the silent
clown twins and"Salamander Dilly"(A parody of bizzare avante Garde artist Salvadore Dally) performed slapstick,
pantomime and sight gags for the viewers.
Bob even performed magic as"The Crazy Magician".
Unfortunately the WNEW TV Ch.5 NYC version of "The Bob McAllster Show"was not as successful as The WTAR and WJZ TV
formats and it left the air after one season.
In the winter of 1969..WOR TV Ch.9 became the last NYC based tv station to create, produce and present its own
"Bozo Show".
Debuting on Monday February 3,1969.."The Bozo Show"was seen weekday mornings and starred Actor and singer
Gorden Ramsey as"Bozo The Clown"..Character Actor/producer/scriptwriter and dialectician: Earl A.George appeared on
the show as "Snappy Pappy" (A loud mouth hillbilly grandpa type),"Larry Loveless"(A prissy gentleman) and as "The Circus Boss"
(Mr.George's interpretation of "The Circus Boss"was based more on Kenny Delmar's bragging Southern "Sen.Claghorn" than on
the tough, no nonsense ringmaster character from The Bozo tv cartoons).
Comic/character actor/comedy magician and mimic Tom Mahoney played"Prof.TweeterFoofer","Grandma Nelly"(Bozo's grandmother
and the source for his shouting his cry for help"Whoa Nelly!")and "Slim Jim":a zany acrobat and "Bozo's"patsy in his crazy scheames.
For a time..Radio and tv personality and puppeteer:Claude Kirchner served as the show's ringmaster and announcer..until he left
the show early in the run.
And Mr.George's"Circus Boss"replaced him.
The show's format had kids in the studio audience play games for prizes, there was craftmaking, hobbies, informational segments, comedy
skits, magic tricks, songs and interviews with guest performers like Magician/escape artist and magic historian: "The Amazing James" Randi
and ventriloquist/Singer and songwriter: Angela Martin and her puppet pal "Tiny" would visit the show.
The show would later move to a weekday afternoon format and be retitled"Circus/Circus/Circus"
The show's format was wrapped around reruns of "The Bozo TV Cartoons" and "Flash Gordon" and"Buck Rogers"Movie serials
starring Buster Crabbe.
"The Bozo Show"/"Circus/Circus/Circus"would remain on Ch.9's airways..until later in 1970's..when it was cancelled.
This is Mr.Claude Kirchner's last tv series.
Previously I explained that Mr. Fred Scott screened reruns of The Joe Orlio/Trans-Lux
"Felix The Cat"TV cartoons and "The Diver Dan TV Puppets" films on "Felix & Diver Dan". I should have explained that this was the second series to screen those "Felix"TV Cartoons..the first
series "Felix The Cat & Friends" aired Monday thru Saturday evenings on WNEW TV Ch.5 in NYC From January,1960
to January,1962.
Mr.Fred Scott hosted both shows..but..Mr.Allen Swift's only involvement was providing the voices of "Diver Dan"
and the puppets for those "DD" tv puppet films.
In 1963..WOR TV Ch.9 became the first NYC based TV station to air
"The Funny Company" TV Cartoons. Created and produced by animator Ken Snyder(Who later in the decade would create and produce "The Roger Ramjet" TV Cartoons).."The Funny Co."
was an attempt to use entertain and educational films as a means of getting young
viewers to learn about the world around them thru discovery and participation.
The stories revolved around a group of industrious kids..who create and manage their
own little corperation to do odds jobs and learn how to make things and have a better understanding
of our corporate system.
The series was seen weekday afternoons on Ch.9..the films were wrapped around live segments that
were set inside of a clubhouse.Which included a studio audience of kids and a live host/performer serving
as the clubhouse leader.
Entertainer and radio/tv broadcaster Morty Gunty served as the program's mc...he would engage the clubhouse
members(the studio audiences)and the viewers in games,songs,stories,craftmaking,hobbies,comedy skits,informational
segments and interviews with guests performers, personalities and members of the studio audience.
Unfortuneatly, the films were not successful due to a poor combination of minor entertainment and old educational films
that were neither informative or sophisticated.
The show continued to be seen weekday afternoons on Ch.9..even though it underwent a title change to The Morty Gunty
Show on Monday June 1,1964.. but... the show failed to gain an audience and "The Morty Gunty Show" AKA "The Funny Co." was shut down for good on
Friday January 1,1965.
Prior to the cancellation of "The Merry Mailman"on WOR TV Ch.9,
Ray Heatherton hosted a daily cartoon program on Ch.9 during the 1956 tv season. The Cartoon Parade was seen
weekday evenings on the station. Unlike his children's wraparound format..Heatherton mc'd this series alone and as himself.
Although..he did occassionall play other characters EG's"The Great Raymondo"(A bumbling magician)
and"The It"(An invisible creature..who took great delight in play pranks on Heatherton and his guests on the
show).
The series was not doing very well however due to the forgetable content of the old movie cartoons that
were presented to the young viewers and Heatherton was uncomfortable working solo and without his famous
letter carrier character.
On Monday April 9,1956..Heatherton donned his "Merry Mailman's" uniform again and mc'd "The Cartoon Parade"
weekday evenings..until Friday June 26,1956.
"The Cartoon Parade" was moved to a weekday afternoon timeslot..despite his appearances as"The Merry Mailman"
the show was not a hit and "The Cartoon Parade's" march was finally haulted on Friday September 14.,1956.
On Monday April 1,1963..Educator and entertainer:Paul Tripp hosted his last children's educational tv series
"Birthday House". Seen weekday mornings on WNBC TV Ch.4 in NYC and in national syndication..the series was set against the backdrop of an enchanted cottage in the woods. Where Tripp, his wife actress/singer and educatior Ruth and their
asistants:Kay Lande, Jan Lara, Musical Director, Ray Carter and puppetter, Tom Tichenor would engage a studio
audience of kids in games, songs, stories, craftmaking, hobbies, educational segments, puppet skits and interviews
with guest performers and personalities.
While celebrating the birthdays of a boy and/or girl.
Along with manipulating and voicing his own puppet creations..Mr.Tichenor would also appear as"Strawtop
the silent scarecrow doll".
The show was a hit and it received accolades from parents, educators and a special citation from The NYC
Emmys in 1964.
"Birthday House" remained on the air..until the station execs at WNBC TV closed it down on Friday September 8, 1967.
On Saturday morning November 28,1987 WNYW TV Ch.5 (Formerley WABD and later WNEW TV) created and produced the
first fun kids tv show in years.
"The DJ Kat Show" featured the misadventures of a wisecracking alley cat puppet and his put upon comedy
assistant.
Set against the backdrop of a makeshift clubhouse inside of the basement of an inner city apartment
builiding. The show format's consisted of "DJ" and Elizabeth Rose reading viewers' mail and introducing reruns of
The MGM Harmon/Issling and Fred (Tex) Avery movie cartoons. And having to deal with the situations created by
