MR. QUICK HAMBURGERS Oconomowoc, Wisconsin

Special thanks to Brad Morrison for the picture of the Oconomowoc, Wisconsin!

7-8-08... I took these pictures on 9-11-97. I happened to be driving by this location in Oconomowoc Wisconsin and spotted a building that looked very similar to my union hall in Neenah Wisconsin, (http://www.captainerniesshowboat.com/mrquickneenah), so I took a couple of pictures. At that time it was an "out of business" hair salon called Trimmers.

After having the pictures developed, I showed them to some of my co-workers and they all said, "That's our union hall!" (Close, but not quite!) It was from my co-workers that I learned our union hall had been a fast food restaurant called Mr. Quick. I assumed our union hall's Oconomowoc twin had also been a Mr. Quick restaurant since they were almost identical.

I haven't been back to Oconomowoc since I took the pictures so I didn't know what ever happened to that building. I have a friend, Sue, who lives in Hartland with her husband, Lenny. Hartland is not too far from Oconomowoc, so I emailed her the pictures and following questions:

Does anyone remember Mr. Quick in Oconomowoc?

Does anyone recognize the building?

Is it still there?

If so, what is it now and can anyone get some current pictures of it for me?

Sue's reply:

Actually I worked just two-three door down from this place. It was torn down a year and 1/2 ago and a Chili's (restaurant) now operates there. There was also a tavern/restaurant next to it called Mr. Slo's that had been there for years. As far as I can remember the building you're talking about was always Trimmers.

I loved the part about there being a tavern next door called Mr. Slo's! I had to call her and make sure she wasn't just joking about that part, (she wasn't!). She told me on the phone that as far as she knows, nothing else ever opened up in the building after Trimmers. It sat vacant until it was torn down about a year and a half ago, along with Mr. Slo's, to build Chili's.

If you look closely at the shape of the Trimmers sign out in front, you'll notice that it was the old Mr. Quick sign, (or part of it). It appears to have been the same type of sign that used to be in Ottumwa, Iowa, as seen the color photos near the top of this page:
