11/07/2009 ... Sandy's fan Janet Fuller remembers Sandy's on Waldron Road in Ft. Smith, Arkansas! Sandy's Waldron Road was Ft. Smith #4 and was location #272 for the chain.
I was watching a program on CNBC about McDonald’s and took a journey down memory lane. Some of my fondest memories as a child was going to Sandy’s. I was born in 1965, so I was very young. I had an older cousin that worked at Sandy’s so mom and dad would take us occasionally to get a burger…and if we were lucky a shake. My cousin, a female, had to wear the Sandy beanie hat.
But as a child, my favorite memory was the cardboard cutouts that we received. I very vividly remember a pirate hat and pirate sword. My father, a woodworker, cut out of wood the shape of the sword and glued the cardboard sword to it. I would not be surprised if my parents still had that sword somewhere. The store we frequented was on Waldron Rd in Fort Smith, Arkansas. I know right where the building is…last I knew it was still standing as a Hardees.
I am very familiar with Fayetteville, Arkansas Sandy’s as well. I am glad to see someone sent photos of that location to you. On my next road trip south, I will get photos of the old Sandy’s location in Fort Smith. If I have an photos, from the late 60’s or early 70’s, I will also submit those. (Especially the sword!)
