A lost Sandy's is one which does not appear on the 1968 Sandy's locations list nor does it show up on the 1973 final Sandy's list.
These hard to find Sandy's usually opened between 1968 and 1972 but went out of business or jumped ship before the Hardees buy-out in 1973. Even rarer, however, are those opened before 1968 and went out of business or relocated before the 1968 list.
A few lost Sandy's were simply left off the final 1973 list for whatever reason. If you find a lost Sandy's, you are a Sandy's hero!
I feel a little bit like Indiana Jones at the moment. I've discovered and verified the existence of a "lost Sandy's"! Here's the reply I got from my reference librarian in Plano today:
Sent: Mon, 1 Oct 2007 10:03 am Subject: RE: Ask A Librarian The Hardee's information led me to it. Hardee's was listed in the 1973 and 1974 Plano City Directories that we have. The address was 1702 Ave. K. Then I went to the Cole's Directory of Dallas for 1970 that we happen to have. It has everything by address.
I looked up the address in the "out of town" section of the directory. Under Plano, 1702 Ave. K, it lists Four Seasons Fashions and Sandy's of Plano. So, at least we know it was there in 1970.
I have not found an advertisement for Sandy's in the 1970 Plano Star Courier. I looked in Jan. and Feb. so far.
Now that we have a confirmation that it was here in Plano in 1970, I'll look a little more. If I find an ad I can send it to you via email. Our phone books and city directories don't go any further back. We got them as donations. I'll let you know if I find anything else.
If you have any memorabilia, pictures or stories of Sandy's in Plano, Texas or elsewhere, please email me!
